Depot Road ....

Hello all ... i have just realized i havent been adding new posts for quite some time now ... and now , i shall add one , that will hopefully , bring back the readers ... my friends ....

today , i am gonna talk about my dear hometown ... to my buddies maybe ... my mountain ...

why is that so ? i am gonna bring you on a tour to my town .... Depot Road ...

I have been living in this area for 17 years now .... the whole of my life actually ... living in 2 seperate units , because of the en-bloc about 4 years ago ... i am now living in a newer flat ... much higher ... maybe a little smaller ... but i have my own room , which is the good thing ...

through out these 17 years of living here ... i never expected anyone to know much about this place ... indeed ... i am always correct ... its always : 'where do you live in ?'

then ill say : 'Depot road ... you know where ?' and it often takes explaination and i doubt people know where the exact place is until they've been there personally ....

i do not blame them .... the place is simply just too ulu ... its a passage , a long stretch of road ... linking telok blangah to queensway ... thats all ... thats all the things i have to say about this place .... nothing much ... ooh ! its landmark ... its actually CMPB ... which i always have to mention to taxi drivers ...

its a rather a religious place though ... it has an indian temple , chinese temple , taoist temple , and a church ... all within the stretch of the town ...

and if youve been to vivo city food republic ... theres this store ... depot road laksa ... i can tell you proudly ... it used to be a store downstairs my old block .... i nv liked it though ... never a fan of hot firey spicy food .... besides ... the auntie is always 'temperamental'...

ok ... ill go into the topography now ... my town ... it is located at the south of the main island , about 4 km off the coast towards sentosa ... is right at the hill side of the telok blangah hill park .... it is sort of a hilly area around there ... u might just fall off the hill ....

erm .. actually not ... it is hilly however ...

and about my town .... its a rather cold , yet busy town ... cold because my neighbours always has their doors shut , but ours is always open ... and busy because, theres a HP and SCI factory right opposite of my block .... not forgetting .. theres also an estate of warehouses ... both blue and white collars are a common sight at lunch time ... they just add life to this little town ...

after the en-bloc ... the town has been introduced to many new things ... one that is worth a mention is the depot road shopping center .... it has escalators ! and has a fairprice , and a seven-eleven ... a pool parlour ... a coffeeshop ... and a restaurant ...

everything is within reach after its introduction ... and in fact, i have thought to myself ... if one day , everyone is to be trapped within town ... somehow , well get to survive ... because , we have everything ... haha ...

i consider it a hip place ... for the retirees though ... its not vibrant ... not at all ... perhaps they should open a macdonalds .... i am sure i will patronise the place more ... for sure ...

By now , you would think that i actually dislike this place ... but in fact ... i feel that it is the 3rd most habitable place in my opinion ...

1st being sixth avenue ... because its posh ...

2nd being orchard road .... because its cool and hip ....

then Depot road ... reason being :

perhaps i am too used to this place ... but i feel that its un-hipness is being compromised by its serenity within ... in here .. you can be as close to nature as it is right behind your block .... and in fact , id choose a quite place to settle within rather than a hustling and bustling area ... where the roads are never going to give you a piece of peace ...

you get really comfy around here when you need it ... nights are always cooling, peaceful and silent ... perhaps thats why they call this a mountain ...

a place to heal your busy souls ....

dont i just love this place !

global warming ...

recently , i came across watching this movie .. an inconvenient truth ... starring al-gore ... only al-gore ... haha ...

a little background info , in case you dont have an idea on who on earth is he ... he's a person , who challenged the better known george w bush for presidency after bill clinton stepped down ... ex-senator, dont know about now , but have been actively involved in environmental campaigns, especially on the global warming issue ...

the entire movie is set in a theatre , where al-gore is giving a presentation about global warming ... it may sound boring .. but i felt that it was meaningful and informs ... about what ? about every single of one of us contributing to the effects of global warming current day !

and only until after i watched the movie (documentry). i was aware about the devestating effects that have been done to the earth so far ... its only going to get worse if this carrys on ....

you see beautiful glaciers melting ... majestic waterfalls becoming narrower ... and giant ice shelves breaking apart ... all due to global warming ... all because of us ...

the earth's co2 concentration level have been recorded way above the chart ... try guessing how far behind the records have been ?

an amazing 650 thousand years !

and comparatively ... 10 hottest years on record have occured in the past 14 years .... 2005 being the hottest of all ....

this has caused devestating effects not only to the earth ... but also to us ... remember katrina? a massive hurricane that occured recently ? took lots of lives ... also due to global warming and drastic climate changes ...

personally , i dont think theres much we could do ... but i hope that we would at least try ...

electric plants and generators being the major contributor to green house gases .... therefore, we could try saving a little electricity per day so as to reduce the demand for producing more power ?

high spending , yet no income !!!

100 ...

i realized its my 100th post ..... and i am gonna dedicate this to e-filing perhaps ... and all the people who came by .. thank you for letting us havs something to do ....

for the past 2 days ... i was involved in this e-filing volunteer thingy by iras ... the main purpose is to help taxpayers file their income taxes via the internet ...

the 1st day was kinda 'barren' .... 3 'customers' in total .... and i should say 2 of the cases is handled my our manager- shar .... interesting man ... eloquent i should say ... multi lingual ! cool ... he is a malay man ... speaks malay , mandrin and english ... and not a trace of being a jack of all trades .... cos he understands china chinese which i cant ... cool huh ... i really admire him ... very capable ... its a pleasure getting to know him ....

alright ... then comes the 2nd day ... even better ... 1 'customer' for the whole 1-6 pm .... but we were well prepared this time round ! brought lots of newspapers , magazines , and handphone games to keep us entertained for the whole 6 hours ....

still time passed slowly and we had to relieve our bore by commenting about people playing basketball .... even though we are not pros ... we just had to laugh at people ... haha ..

ooo ! how can we forgot the chocolate treat by yi hong !!! thanks by the way ! because raymond and me won in jawbreaker .... wahhaha !!

interesting ....

confusion ...

today ... i woke up at 8am ... slept for only 5 hours i guess ... not very sure .... it was all because that today , is the big day for np ppl .... why ? its results day ....

the 1st thing in the morning ... i see raymond's message ... saying that he got his results already ... then i waited ... until 830 am ... the message is still not here ! then i decided ... alright ... since i am so keen ... i shall go online to give it a check ....

it is a deprovement ... i dont know whether to be happy or dissappointed ... happy because given the more play than work through out the whole semester, i did not fail any modules .... dissappointed .. because it is a deprovement of course ....

here are the results : BBBC+C+B ...... no As .... highest scores being B and lowest C+ ... must have an easy time calculating my GPA (2.8) huh .... not affected by extreme values .... argh ! bstats stuff ...

Alright ! after this experience ... its time for a fresh start .... value your education ... work harder the next time round ....

goodbye 274

I hope no one thinks i am crazy for taking these pictures !!!

and its going away ... in 2 days time , bus service 274 will be terminated ... and another service 175 will replace , not exactly , but serve as a substitute to 274 ... its a the change for the better ... as it goes to TOWN !!! and clementi interchange ... wonder if i could take it to school .... and other places ... which is not important to mention ... but nevertheless, the service 274 will not be forgotten for me...

for the whole of my 17 years living in this ulu estate ... depot road ... the bus service 274 has been the bus that transport residents of the estate in and out ... to and from bmc the town central of my area ....

since then, theres this lousy , un-air conditioned , kampong, metal railings , noisy , shaky , and remember the seats ? its smooth pvc ... unlike today, at least theres some patterns on it ... yes... thats when 274 is there already !

and now ... theres aircon-ed 274 with tv mobile .... what a change ....

oo ! and remember the old bmc interchange ? theres this dark brick walls , with this old school clock hanging from the roof ... no escalators then ... and i think the current overhead bridge was not there then .... we had to cross the road ... which i think was better ... haha ...

and the uncles ! whooo ... i could remember their looks that everytime i am at the interchange waiting for the bus, i would look out for the drivers... when i see them walking on bus park , ooh ! i know 274 will be here soon ....

thats 17 years worth of memories and under such short notice ... its gone for the good .... i understand it though ... ever since 57 have been introduced ... it always 'steals customers' from 274 .... it always come before 274 and all the people will get on it 1st leaving no one for 274 (people who missed 57 not included) ... and now, often, you'll see empty 274s making its circle round the estate ...

now its going into the history book !!!

slacking all the way ....

what an irony ... i havent been updating since i dunnoe when ... but , thinking about the limited activities i have ... i still cant believe that i did not update my events ... pardon me for my nonsense ... it just came out of my mind while i was typing and this .... honestly ... i dont see the point of my statements ... haha ...

alright ... since the start of the holidays ... there has been few ... less ... little .... not alot of activities .... most of the time, spent at home ... if not , meeting up with our 'family' ..... having dinner and ending up playing the coin game at coffee bean ... the fact that we are so excited about the game , shows how deprived we are of nice activities ... so i say sentosa one day ! shall we ?

then, comes school ... been back to school twice ... for e-filing volunteer stuff and baoc ..... not that interesting though ....

ar ! how can i forget ... our chalet ... the 1st ever ta23 chalet ... kinda dissappointing though ... 7 people stayed over .... and less than 10 ? turned up for the whole thing ... please do not allow this to happen the next time round ... if theres another one ...

its kinda wasteful ... we might as well meet up somewhere and have a sumptious dinner how abt that ?

i should say .... i enjoyed the chalet , despite the attendance ... all made possible by the people who made the effort to attend ... we had fun no doubt .... but it could be better ! we cycled, gambled, bbqed , lan-ed .... took lots of pics in the park ...

lets meet up for dinner one day ! phua !! how about the crab plan ? have been talking about it but no news huh !

again, the weather is on and off ... toying with my feelings all the time !! today , i planned to go for a swim ... then the next hour , dark clouds loomed ... and until now ! it is not raining yet !!! eh !! if it rained right , i'd be less angry you know !! nature incurred my wrath !!! boom !!

argh !!! one minute its raining another minute its not !

everytime when i plan to go swimming , when i step out of the house , it starts pouring like no bodys business ... then , when i do not plan to do anything , and stone at home , the weather becomes so sunny !!

so what is this about ???
